グリッタリング・プライズ/ザ・ベスト・オブ・シンプル・マインズ [VHS]

新しくデビュー当時からのPVなどを集めたSEEN THE LIGHTS が出て、このビデオともサラバイできるかなと思っているファンの人、甘いです。このビデオにはこのビデオでしか見れないものが殆どです。確かにメジャーな曲しか入っていませんが、ジムのインタビューも貴重ですし、SEEN THE LIGHTS では明らかに違うPV、特にライヴ映像のものがとても貴重です。ライヴ映像もののPVが好きか嫌いか、どちらかに分かれると思いますが、そもそもちゃんとした、まとまったライヴ映像というのが少ないシンプル・マインズだけに、やはり見ておいて損はありません。これもDVD化されない限り、ファンの間では、これから希少価値が上がるでしょうね。

これほど曲のイメージとPVが一体化したバンドは珍しいですね(彼ら以外じゃQUEENやBOWIE、ULTRAVOX位ですかね)

ゴーストダンシングだけ何故か音源及び映像がライブですがこれもまた良し。

ディレクターの記載が無いので何とも言えませんがDAVID MALLETが関わっていそうな映像美の数々…傑作です。

唯一の難点はブックレットがペラペラ紙1枚な事、箱の分厚さを考えるともっと分厚くして解説やディレクター記載をして欲しかったなぁ

Seen the Lights - A Visual History [DVD] [Import]

初のDVDでこの内容は凄すぎる！まず、PV集ですが、VHSで出されているGlittering Prize に収められているものとは違うものばかり入っています。(似ていても微妙に違うものなどあります)。なんと言っても貴重すぎるのがLove Song, Promised You a Miracle の正式(?)PV版。GPではLove Songはベストを出した当時のライヴ映像でしたし、Promised... は普通、MTVでは奇妙なライヴ版が流れていました。シンプル・マインズの歴史の中でも思い切り謎に包まれていた80年代初期のものが見れるというのは、ニューカッスルの伝説のライヴ映像も含めて、涙モノです。この日をどんなに待ったことか。公式サイトで見れるPVもありましたが、ネットでは所詮圧縮映像。DVDで綺麗に見れるのはとても嬉しいです。マインズのPVは大して何の工夫もないことが多いのですが、ずっと通してみていると80年代の音楽&ファッションの移り変わりなどが見れて爆笑必至です。Love SongのPVには大爆笑させて頂きました。暴れまわるジムをとくとご覧下さい。Disc2のライヴはVeronaのライヴ映像が復活。こちらはライヴ映像、インタビュー等々がうまく交差するように出来ているものです。Street Fighting Yearツアーですので、ジム、チャーリー、マイケル、メルが揃った最後のライヴ映像と言っていいかも。迫力あるステージですが同時にBelfast Childの神聖さに感動したものでした。ヴァージンレーベルですがCRYまでカバーしているし、貴重映像満載、これでこの値段でいいのか？という驚きの内容です。私もリージョンフリーのものを持っています。
